Our Enrichment Programme
Khalsa Secondary Academy believes that an outstanding education offers all students an extensive range of enrichment activities which will enable them to be successful in life.
This is embedded within our ethos which emphasises a holistic education experience along with a strong focus on AMBITION. We believe that our students should have full access to the same kinds of opportunities as students at the top private schools. We strongly subscribe to the concept of CULTURAL CAPITAL. Research has shown that children who take part in ‘out of school hours learning’ make better progress and improve their attendance and attitude to education and learning. In addition, participation in such enabling activities is essential for access to the best universities.
We have listened to parents, students and teachers and in September 2017 enrichment is going to look very different at Khalsa Secondary Academy. In Years 7, 8 and 9, all students will have a timetabled hour every Wednesday where they are able to choose from a selection of enriching activities which will provide them with new opportunities and broaden their horizons. This lesson is period 6. We will also have an additional day where we will offer optional Sikh Enrichment every Thursday for students who wish to study this in more depth.
Students will also be actively encouraged to get involved in a wide range of supplementary activities provided after school, at break time and out of school hours. These will include sport and the arts as well as character forming programmes such as Duke of Edinburgh and the National Citizenship Service.
At the end of every Summer Term we will be offering a week long Enrichment package. This is planned according to the interests of each year group and includes trips to London and specialist external leaders who come into school to introduce new skills or vital safeguarding events.
