Student Leadership

Our Student Board members are a highly valued group of students who represent the voice and opinions of all the students within our school. 

Through our Student Board, our goal is to develop leadership skills, whilst supporting student democracy. Most importantly, our board members strive to promote the well-being of all of the children in our school. 

 

The ATAM Academy Student Board Aims:  

  • Everyone feels safe and supported within a caring community 

  • Students are introduced to Sikh, moral and social values and develop a sense of responsibility to themselves, their peers and the wider community 

  • Diversity and difference are recognised and valued 

  • Everyone feels valued for who they are and what they contribute 

  • Achievement in all its forms is rewarded and celebrated 

  • The curriculum is broad and rich and personalised to the needs of all our students 

  • Our students are encouraged to be independent and are prepared for change and life beyond school 

  • Confidence, self-esteem, self-respect and self-discipline are encouraged 

  • High expectations are set and all students are appropriately challenged 

 

The ATAM Academy Student Board Mission Statement 

The ATAM Academy holds the belief that successful education requires active participation from staff, students and the Trust. We believe that effective relationships are promoted through consultation, collaboration and open communication. 

 

Purpose of the Student Board 
The purpose of our Student Board is to encourage pupils to get involved in issues that concern them in and around school.  As a student board, we focus on listening to the views of pupils and we take responsibility for aspects of school life.

Put simply, the Student Board is a force for improving the ATAM Academy with key school leaders. 

Having a Student Board helps us to improve aspects of our school community by exercising our rights and accepting our responsibilities. Our discussions and decisions will help to inform improvements to the school environment and our learning. 

 

Organisation 
The Student Board is overseen by the Vice Principal Pastoral and Inclusion. It draws representatives from Primary classes and each of the tutor groups in Years 7, 8 and 9. There will be two Board members from each tutor group and Primary class.  

On a fortnightly basis at lunchtime, the Student Board will meet to discuss business focusing on areas such as student learning, student support; the community and extra-curricular provision in the school.  

Sub-committees focus on an aspect of school life.

For their focus they gather and share student voice, develop plans to improve, implement, and evaluate these plans. The sub-committees and their areas of focus are: 

  • Environment 

  • Communications and Charity Work  

  • Well-being and Student Development  

  • Student Learning
