Guidance to your child’s learning

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a comprehensive Legal framework published by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The framework sets standards for development, learning and care of children from birth to five years. There are four themes as follows: -

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

These four themes then have principles to put those them into practice. All registered Early Years providers are required to use this framework and complete an EYFS profile for each child at the end of the academic year in which they reach five.

During this stage children work towards ‘Early Learning Goals’. Most children will achieve or be well on their way to achieving the Early Learning Goals by the end of the Foundation Stage.

The Development Matters document explains the curriculum which our children follow in the Nursery and Reception.

OUR NURSERY ENVIRONMENT

Early Years consist of four purpose built classrooms. There are two reception classes and two Nursery classes. The Early Years unit has its own outside space, which provides a safe and exciting outdoor learning environment.

The Nursery classrooms are positioned next to the Reception classes. This enables our Early Years staff to work together to provide the best possible provision for all pupils within the Foundation stage (Nursery and Reception).

TIMES AND COST

Our Nursery morning session opens from 8.30- 11.30am (15 hours per week). Afternoon session opens from 12.15- 3.15pm (15 hours per week). Full-time children stay at Nursery with 1-hour lunch.

All children are entitled to 15 hours of free maintained Nursery provision per week. If you are eligible for 30-hour funding for your 3 or 4-year olds then you must satisfy certain criteria to qualify. You can check for eligibility and apply for the funding at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk

Children who are not eligible for 30-hour free funding can still attend the lunch and afternoon session but at an additional cost.

Nursery Uniform

At Atam Nursery we believe that uniform gives a child an identity and a sense of belonging. The Nursery children will attend the Nursery daily wearing the following uniform:

• Navy jogging bottoms

• Navy polo shirt with the school logo on it

• Navy sweatshirt with the school logo on it

• Black trainers or shoes with Velcro (no laces)

• Head covering – patkas or turbans must be either navy blue or black.

Please note, obtaining a place at Atam Nursery will not give children priority for a place at Atam Primary.  All parents will have to complete the Redbridge Admission forms for a primary school place at the appropriate time and complete the school SIF form and hand it in to the school office.
